Jordan Tours, Petra & Wadi Rum
Ahlan wa sahlan — welcome to Jordan. We are a local, Bedouin-run tour operator specialising in Petra and Wadi Rum, with wider itineraries across Amman, the Dead Sea, Madaba and beyond.
Petra
Petra is Jordan’s most celebrated archaeological treasure and one of the most extraordinary ancient cities in the Middle East. Carved directly into rose-coloured sandstone cliffs by the Nabataeans more than 2,000 years ago, Petra developed into an important junction on the trade routes that connected Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome.
Although much has been written about Petra, the experience of seeing it in person is difficult to prepare for. The city is approached through the Siq, a narrow gorge more than a kilometre long, bordered by soaring rock walls whose colours and formations change as you walk deeper into the site.
At the end of the Siq, Al-Khazneh — the Treasury — suddenly appears between the cliffs. Its monumental façade was carved directly from the pink sandstone and remains one of Petra’s most recognisable sights. Beyond the Treasury, the ancient city continues across a vast landscape of tombs, temples, rock-cut façades and paths that reveal the scale and engineering skill of the Nabataeans.
Petra is much more than a single monument. Its setting, history and craftsmanship make it a place that rewards time and exploration, from the dramatic approach through the Siq to the wider valleys and mountain paths beyond the main archaeological area.
Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum is one of the most striking desert landscapes in the world, a vast wilderness of sandstone mountains, sheer cliffs, narrow canyons and open desert plains. Wind and time have shaped the landscape into natural arches, rock bridges and dramatic formations that rise unexpectedly from the desert floor.
The area is closely associated with T. E. Lawrence and the Arab Revolt, but Wadi Rum is much more than a historic landscape. Bedouin families have lived in and travelled through this desert for generations, and their knowledge, traditions and hospitality remain an important part of experiencing the area.
Away from the village and main routes, visitors can explore hidden canyons, ancient inscriptions, natural rock bridges and panoramic viewpoints. The desert can be discovered by 4x4, camel or on foot, while its mountains and valleys also offer excellent opportunities for trekking, scrambling and climbing.
Spending time in Wadi Rum is ultimately about experiencing its space, silence and natural beauty. Whether exploring during the day or staying overnight in a Bedouin-style camp, the desert offers a sense of tranquillity and wilderness that makes it one of Jordan’s most memorable destinations.
